Mike Donovan is widely known as the musician directing his blazingly raucous band Sic Alps from San Francisco. This will be his first solo arts exhibition displaying a range of works including drawings, photographs, and paintings produced from the past ten years. The title of the show "Bongos Exact" implies that the artist's experimentation surrenders to the task between random mistakes and original images. This emphasizes Donovan's willingness to dream instead through a series of veils.

Influenced by German Abstract Expressionist Sigmar Polke while on a trip to the UK, he makes marks on paper with an anti-style, free forming paint amongst an assemblage of his text and poetry. He will also execute two large-scale site specific wall paintings with combined figurative and narrative imagery. The photographs taken with various cameras in locations across the world catch strange presences only a lone traveler exploring humanity could be open to. His creative output subverts and brings into question a complicated narrative using abstract devices.

Donovan was born in Chicago. He lives and works in San Francisco.
